The Ruy Lopez Breyer Variation
The Spanish Opening is also known as the "Queen of Openings". If you master this opening, you will understand a lot about chess. One of the most popular systems in the Spanish Opening is the Breyer Variation, in which Black moves his already developed knight from c6 to b8 and then develops it to a better square via d7. The Hungarian chess master Gyula Breyer recommended this move in 1911, but he was ahead of his time. It took decades before this move was understood. Today, the Breyer System, which begins with 9...Nb8, can be found in almost every opening repertoire of top grandmasters, including four of the last world champions Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand and Carlsen. On this DVD, Pavel Eljanov, one of the greatest experts in the Breyer Variation, shows you all the important variations and plans in this system. In 14 video lessons, you will be brought up to date with the latest opening theory. Eljanov shows you the important moves and explains the ideas behind these moves. The resulting positions are evaluated from Black's point of view.
