1.e4 c5 2.c3 b6 - Murey's antidote. The Sicilian player strives for a meaningful, creative confrontation and is prepared to temporarily go on the defensive for later counter-opportunities. In most main and secondary variations, this concept works quite well, only the Alapin Variation 2.c3 proves to be an almost impregnable bastion of the bureaucrats on the chessboard: In the far too clear positions, White gets a risk-free initiative, the neutralization of which only leads to flattening and a draw - too often against nominally weaker opponents. \r\nAnd this is exactly where the \''antidote\'' comes in: With 2...b6, Black relies on a jungle strategy, and as the fight continues, the positions become more and more complicated instead of - as after 2...d5 or 2...Nf6 - ever simpler. As with \''Sicilian in the spirit of the hedgehog\'', Zeller excels in finding ever new resources in seemingly endangered positions; one could even say that 2...b6 is the continuation of the hedgehog concept on the occasion of 2.c3.
