Andrei Volokitin belongs to a very special breed of player: he rose to a place in the world's top 20 as a teenager by playing dynamic, often brilliant chess. Although not all of us have the prospect of doing the same, There is a lot we can learn from his training methods, his games and his general approach. These topics are the subject of this book, which was written in collaboration with his trainer.

The book focuses on 375 positions in which the reader must solve a problem or answer a question. These problems are similar to those players usually face at the board and are particularly useful as a training tool. Sometimes the task is to find a combination, but often the task is simply to decide on a move. It is up to us to decide whether to play quietly or to go all out by launching a sacrificial attack!

The examples are all recent, and so even the most avid reader of chess literature will have seen very few of them before. Many of the positions are from Volokitin's own games, giving us first-hand experience of the thinking behind his truly spectacular chess. The volume also offers splendid examples from Grabinski's training files, carefully collected over the years and arranged in order of difficulty according to their instructive content. The commentaries and detailed solutions explain the key themes in each position, and also reveal the authors' chess philosophy and love for the game.

Grandmaster Andrey Volokitin was born in Lviv in 1986. He won the Ukrainian Championship and was a member of the team that won the Chess Olympiad in Calvià. In January 2005, at the age of 18, he was ranked among the top 20 in the world rankings for the first time. He has won many prizes in junior championships and major international tournaments.

International Master Vladimir Grabinsky is the coach of the Ukrainian youth national team. Among his students, besides Volokitin, are several other players who have won international titles at a young age.
