Karel van der Weide (1973) is a retired chess grandmaster. He was one of the Dutch elite for many years, won major international tournaments (Bad Wiessee 2004, Prague 2005, Seville 2007) and shared second place in the EU Championships (Liverpool 2006). The Chess Federation appointed him youth coach. He even accompanied the Dutch women's team at the European Championships in Gothenburg (2005). Van der Weide was a deserving (or notorious) reporter at chess tournaments. In 2008 he published his "literary memoirs" with Schaken voor huisvrouwen (De Arbeiderpers).
