Albin's Countergambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5!?) is popular among grandmasters and amateurs alike. It takes its name from the Romanian master Adolf Albin (1848-1920), who popularized it in the 1890s. In the mid-2000s, this hyper-aggressive system, with which Black seeks to immediately destabilize White's position, experienced a renaissance when none other than GM Alexander Morozevich revived the opening with a number of new ideas and good results.

But in recent years there has been widespread agreement among grandmasters that White has a number of ways to defuse the Morozevich setup. But after re-examining it, I not only believe that this opening is perfectly sound, but also that a number of leading theoreticians have overestimated White's chances of gaining a clear advantage. As this DVD will show, I actually believe that it is White who has to be very careful not to end up worse off after the opening, and I have found a number of extremely dangerous innovations that make Albin's Countergambit a theoretically viable opening again.
