The Dutch (1.d4 f5) is considered an aggressive and double-edged opening, and of all the common responses to 1.d4 it has the lowest draw rate. The Dutch became popular in the 1951 World Championship match between David Bronstein and Mikhail Botvinnik, where both sides successfully used the opening. Today, players known for their spectacular attacking chess like to use the opening as a dangerous surprise weapon.
