The Vienna Variation is a special variation of the Queen's Gambit, which is reached after the moves 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 dxc4. By capturing on c4 on the 4th move, the opening is strongly reminiscent of the Queen's Gambit Accepted. On the other hand, the Vienna Variation is also inspired by Nimzo-Indian structures, without losing its own character. In the main variations, asymmetrical pawn structures usually arise, so Black can hope for lively and combative games here.
