mehr eine Endspiel-Enzyklopädie

Das Buch ist ein umfassendes Endspielwerk, mehr eine Enzyklopädie als ein Buch zum Durcharbeiten. Großmeister John Nunn, der das Vorwort geschrieben hat, empfiehlt, das Buch einfach irgendwo aufzuschlagen und sich das anzusehen, was interessant aussieht. Das Niveau ist schon sehr hoch. Teilweise muss man mit einem einzigen Diagramm zehn Züge weit mitdenken. Ein Brett zum Nachspielen ist daher sehr wichtig.
Da Müller und Lamprecht viele wichtige Prinzipien und Regeln nennen und praktisch alles abgedeckt ist, führt an diesem Buch als Bestandteil der eigenen Schachbibliothek nichts vorbei.
