Chess Endgames 12 - Rook versus Knight
The more the material is reduced, the more important it is to correctly assess the potential of your own and your opponent's pieces. This is especially true in endgames in which the balance of power on the board is unequal. The new 12th DVD in Karsten Müller's popular series continues the discussion of asymmetrical material distributions that began in volume 11. This time, the endgame expert from Hamburg examines the following constellations, among others: • Rook against knight • Rook and knight against pair of knights • Two rooks against rook and knight • Rook against bishop and knight • Rook and bishop against bishop and knight • Rook against two knights The important characteristics of "coordination" and "harmony of the pieces" can be studied very well in these endgames and lead to interesting practical insights. The geometry of the knight in particular can be examined closely here. This, by the way, protects against unpleasant surprise forks not only in the endgame, as long as you stay in the "knight chess shadow". The internationally recognized endgame expert explains the relevant winning motives of the rook side, such as returning the extra quality, opening lines for the rook and restricting the knight, if necessary, using numerous examples. And the question of the right exchange often plays an important role in exploiting the advantage. Video time: 5 hours 12 minutes
