Master Class Volume 4: José Raúl Capablanca

He was a child prodigy and legends surround him. In his best days he was considered invincible and some consider him the greatest chess talent of all time: Jose Raul Capablanca, born in Havana in 1888. At the age of 13 he became Cuban champion, in 1909 he sensationally defeated Marshall 8:1 and catapulted himself into the world elite. At a time when information was scarce across the pond, Capablanca did not gain the recognition he deserved in Europe until 1911, when he left the chess elite behind in San Sebastian. However, it took another 10 years before the Cuban defeated the reigning world champion Emanuel Lasker in a match and crowned himself.
