Learn from a world champion!

Mikhail Botvinnik became world champion in 1948 and remained so until 1963. During this time he successfully defended his title against David Bronstein, Vassily Smyslov and Mihail Tal, or won it back in rematches. Botvinnik was the first to introduce a systematic, scientific approach to chess. He studied openings in terms of their typical middle game structures and developed successful strategies for them. The strategic approach runs like a thread through Botvinnik's work. The 6th world chess champion, known in the Soviet Union as the "Patriarch", founded a chess school after the end of his active career and passed on his knowledge to many eager students. His students included Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik.

On this DVD, grandmasters and experts such as Yannick Pelletier, Mihail Marin, Oliver Reeh and Karsten Müller use the games of Mihail Botvinnik to show how to successfully contest certain openings in chess, which pattern strategies there are in certain structures, how to find tactical solutions and how to win endgames according to fixed rules. Anyone who wants to win their games in positional areas and with as little tactical risk as possible will find valuable recipes in the games of Mikhail Botvinnik. Many of his games were part of the basic training of young chess players in strategy and endgame management during the "Soviet chess school" and are still invaluable today as a guide to successful game management.
