The wicked Veresov Attack
The Veresov System (1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Bg5) is less frequently played and less well known than other queen pawn openings such as the Trompowsky Attack, the Torre Attack or the London System. This makes it a dangerous weapon in the right hands. Many opponents are simply not prepared for it. The Veresov System is an attacking opening in which White develops his minor pieces quickly in order to then open the position with effective pawn advances. Many strong grandmasters have used Veresov as a surprise weapon, including players such as Spassky, Tal, Bronstein, Alburt and Gufeld. Modern followers of the system include Miladinovic and Jonny Hector, who enjoy playing this variation and are successful. On this ChessBase DVD, Andrew Martin provides an introduction to the Veresov System, explains the main ideas and offers a repertoire to choose from. There is a final test to test what you have learned. This DVD provides an ideal introduction to this opening and is particularly suitable for players who like to play active chess but do not have time to learn main lines. Veresov is worth studying and playing!
