Pirc Defense Volume 1: Positional Variations

Are there any absolute truths in an opening as flexible as the Pirc Defense? I played and studied the Pirc Defense intensively for more than ten years and thought I had found the best sequence of moves against every system White had. Then I tried other openings for a while and when I wanted to see what was new in the Pirc Defense, I had to realize that things were not so simple. So the repertoire I recommend on this DVD is a mixture of the still good variations from my old repertoire and current new variations. 1* In the positional systems, White is not looking for an immediate refutation of the Pirc Defense, but is aiming for a long-term strategic battle in which space advantage and better development should ultimately give him an advantage. These White systems may seem calm, but are by no means harmless and in order to equalize and get counterplay, Black should above all master the basic tactical and positional ideas that I explain in detail. There are a few specific variations that I will cover when examining the general rules, but they are easy to remember. If you study the DVD carefully, you should be able to get complex strategic middlegame positions where the better player has the better chance of winning!
