The King's Gambit is a sharp opening in which White sacrifices material for other advantages via the moves 1.e4 e5 2.f4. Defending against his opponent's aggressive approach is not easy for Black. This is why the opening promises White great success, especially since it can also be used as a surprise weapon.
White's main strategic goal is to occupy the center via d2-d4 by sacrificing the pawn on f4, in order to be able to quickly launch an attack on the king through rapid piece development.

The King's Gambit was already mentioned in the works of Lucena (1497) and Ruy Lopez (1561). It reached its peak during the Romantic period in chess. The "Immortal Game" between Anderssen and Kieseritzky, which could not be missing from the book, also dates from this period. Over the decades and up to the present day, even world champions have used the King's Gambit. Even today, the opening is part of the repertoire of some of the world's top players. It is also popular in correspondence chess.
With this book, the authors present a completely revised, expanded and updated version of their first edition from 2012.
Jerzy Konikowski is a FIDE Master and is known worldwide as the author of a large number of excellent opening books. Uwe Bekemann is a Correspondence Chess Master, (co-)author of numerous opening books and was a member of the board of the German Correspondence Chess Federation for many years.
The King's Gambit equips you with an interesting opening weapon that is a lot of fun to use and also offers the prospect of great success.
