Far too often, chess games are lost in the opening because one side falls into a trap that is usually tactical, but sometimes also positional. The author (a former coach of the Polish national team and a successful Bundesliga player for decades) wanted to remedy this situation, true to the motto "prevention is better than cure!". Over the course of many years, he has compiled over 200 short games to demonstrate such "opening failures" and their history.
In the first part, 200 diagrams show the critical point in a game at which the reader has to make the right decision. This allows the reader to train the intuitive assessment of positional patterns and the analysis of the possible variations. In addition, a points system enables practitioners of various skill levels to evaluate their own tactical skills.
The second part contains all the games with the correct continuation as well as a detailed discussion of the respective alternatives.
FIDE Master Jerzy Konikowski,
Coach of the Polish national team from 1978 to 1981 and holder of the DSB A-Trainer license, played successfully in the Bundesliga for several years. His numerous publications in books and magazines mainly deal with the area of chess openings.
