Famous people from different eras had and still have a close relationship with chess. They were convinced of its special value and its benefits for the individual and society. Personalities such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Karl Marx, Leo Tolstoy and Albert Einstein loved chess. They valued this ingenious game because it gave them pleasure and stimulated their minds. There is a special appeal in following games played by historical figures. They tell us something about their understanding of chess, their way of thinking and their temperament. This is shown in this book in an entertaining way using selected examples.

The author had the pleasure of getting to know some of the personalities presented here personally over the past three decades.

The reading may also be of interest to non-chess players.
