Vlastimil Hort has played countless chess games in his life so far, whether in competitions, tournaments, simultaneous games or in private. He took each one seriously and played it to the end. But there are some that still swirl around in his head today, that don't let him rest, that have had a fateful influence on his chess life. Now that he is 80 years old, it is high time to put some of these games on paper, says Vlastimil Hort.

Vlastimil Hort , born in 1944 in Kladno (now in the Czech Republic), is a Czech-German chess grandmaster. After studying economics and after the Soviet occupation in 1968, he decided to pursue a professional chess career and emigrated to Germany in 1985. He was six-time Czechoslovak champion and three-time German champion and has won more than 80 international chess tournaments.
