Opening knowledge – manageable and time-saving!

Club players usually have little time to study opening theory.
A small repertoire with solid positions, only a few forced variations and a manageable number of controllable positions is a great advantage. The book offers a complete repertoire for Black on 200 pages, where the understanding of pawn formations and both sides' game ideas is more valuable than the knowledge of specific sequences of moves. It should help you to improve your own game and results in tournament practice with little effort!

The basis is the Antoshin Variation of the Philidor Defence, 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 e5 4.Nf3 exd4 5.Nxd4 Be7 and the Old Indian Defence, 1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.c4 Nbd7 4.Nc3 e5. Both lead to complex positions in which Black, after quickly completing the development, goes on the counterattack - usually with the help of an effective expansion on the queenside through c7-c6 and b7-b5.

The d6 repertoire is based on Jörg Hickl's decades of experience in top-level chess. His intensive collaboration with the target group of players between Elo 1400 and 2200 has proven to be very beneficial, as he has been able to gain deep insights into their requirements and specific problems during over 80 chess trips and seminars.

The authors attach great importance to a manageable scope as well as easy-to-understand and easily implementable explanations.

GM Jörg Hickl , International Grandmaster since 1988, has played almost one hundred times for the German national team. In addition to various German team championship titles, he won the German Individual Championship in 1998. For more than 18 years he has devoted himself increasingly to organizing chess tours and training club players.

IM Dr. Erik Zude , International Master since 2006, won the Hessian individual championship in 1989, 2009 and 2014 as well as numerous individual and team titles at state level. He has been active as a coach of youth and club players for more than 8 years and plays for SV Hofheim in the Bundesliga.
