Every chess player has strengths and weaknesses. Whether it is tactics or strategy, middle game or endgame, the aspiring player should strive to achieve a high level in all areas. When reviewing his own games, the author noticed that a gap often occurred between the middle game and the endgame. An advantage gained early in the game was carelessly given away later on. An equal position was lost in the endgame. Lutz therefore decided to devote more time to the endgame.
In addition to studying the well-known literature, this included a thorough analysis of a large number of endgames, both my own and those of others. This book is the result of this work. Christopher Lutz presents 45 endgames of varying difficulty, arranged as tasks. You are asked, for example, to find a move, develop a plan or compare several alternatives. Answering these and similar questions will help you to develop a better feel for the endgame.

Christopher Lutz has been a grandmaster since 1992 and was German champion in 1995 and 2001. The eight-time Olympic participant played for many years at the top board of SG Porz, with whom he won several German championship titles.
As a coach, Lutz has worked with a number of young German players. His work as Vladimir Kramnik's second in his duels against the computer program DEEP FRITZ in 2002 and 2006 was particularly notable.
