Mark Dvoretsky (1947-2016) was born in Moscow. He was an International Master, Honored Trainer of the USSR, Russia and Georgia, and FIDE Senior Trainer. He was rightly considered one of the best trainers in the world. Several of his students became strong grandmasters: S. Dolmatov, A. Yusupov, A. Dreev, V. Zvjagintsev, E. Inarkiev, among others. Mark Dvoretsky is also an extremely successful author. In 2010 he received the Boleslavsky Medal from FIDE for his books "The Endgame University" and "Endgame Tragicomedies".

Mark Dvoretsky managed to prepare this book, but unfortunately he was unable to write the foreword. Therefore, the publisher takes on this sad task. Fortunately, Mark discussed his concept with some friends and colleagues, so we know what he planned for this exercise book. We have added 6 tests (each with 12 positions) to the German edition that have not yet been published in German chess literature. They form the first part of the book. We have made a special effort to avoid overlaps with his training manual series. In total, you will find 190 exercises with solutions and comments in this book. (From the foreword by Artur Jussupow)
