Capablanca chess is a variant of chess that was invented in the 1920s by world chess champion José Raúl Capablanca.

Capablanca believed that in a few decades all games between grandmasters would end in a draw, which was the main motivation for creating a more complex version of this game. To make the game more interesting, Capablanca changed the design of the board and introduced two new pieces into the game:

• The archbishop moves like a runner and a knight.

• The Chancellor moves like a rook and a knight.

The additional pieces enable exciting new strategies.
