Trompowsky Attack - A Modern Repertoire
With the Trompowsky Attack, White can build up pressure from the start without having to study a huge amount of opening theory. The practical advantage of a White repertoire around the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 is really immense: You no longer need to worry about a number of other openings (e.g. King's Indian, Grünfeld Indian, Nimzo-Indian). The Trompowsky Attack became popular in the 1990s, mainly thanks to the creative interpretations of the British grandmaster Julian Hodgson. Since then, hundreds of high-quality games with many fresh ideas have been added every year and these prove that the "Tromp" meets all the requirements of a good opening. It is solid, flexible and has a kick! Martin Breutigam presents a modern, easy-to-learn repertoire based on tried and tested knowledge and current developments. The International Master's work is divided into six chapters: 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 Ne4 3.Bf4 (Hodgson System), 2...d5 (Central System), 2...e6, 2...c5, 2...g6 and side variations. In two specific cases, Breutigam recommends clever transitions to related openings (Torre Attack and Richter-Veresov Attack, respectively) to pose maximum problems for Black in his search for equalization.
