Tarrasch Defense - A modern repertoire
Hardly any opening is as versatile as the Tarrasch Defense (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5 or 3.Nf3 c5). It is the most active response to the Queen's Gambit, and it can also arise after other game beginnings (e.g. 1.c4, 1.Nf3 or 1.g3). In addition to its universality, the Tarrasch Defense has another general advantage: all pieces can be developed effortlessly and freely! However, after 3...c5, Black must be prepared to play with an isolated pawn. The isolated d-pawn does not represent a weakness per se, and often even becomes a trump card. Today, there is no doubt that the Tarrasch Defense, which is around 125 years old, is a good opening that also stands up to thorough computer testing. On this DVD, Martin Breutigam presents a Black repertoire that is based on modern grandmaster games and current trends, but also includes instructive classics. In 18 video clips, the International Master explains the most important plans, motifs and variations. Alternative paths are also shown in detail, e.g. in the main variation of the Rubinstein system (4.cxd5 exd5 5.Nf3 Nc6 6.g3 Nf6 7.Bg2 Be7 8.0-0 0-0 9.Bg5); here Breutigam discusses a classic answer (9...cxd4 10.Nxd4 h6 11.Be3 Bg4) as well as the popular variation 9...c4. Additional clips with test exercises and extensively commented model games complement the training material.
