Slovenian GM Vasja Pirc was a five-time Yugoslav national champion. That says it all about his playing strength, but there is something more important that he did for the chess world: the defense after the moves 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6, which he studied in detail, is named after him. The Pirc Defense had its ups and downs in tournament practice. Many considered it dubious. But the opening survived and is now coming back into fashion. The reasons for this are the flexible nature of the position and the multitude of possibilities that both sides have. One would expect that the fewer options White has, the easier the defense should be. In fact, there is a certain logic in this, but on the other hand, correct play by both sides should lead to a draw. Bulgarian grandmaster Dejan Bojkov takes a different approach and presents an aggressive repertoire for the second player on this new DVD. Black takes more risks than usual, but hopes for higher dividends in return. The original analyses on the DVD will help the viewer to control the risk. Video game time: 4 hours 29 minutes (English)
