The Nimzowitsch Defence - 1.e4 Nc6 - represents a lesser known and far less popular part of the great strategist's legacy than the Nimzo-Indian Defence. While the latter has gained a reputation as one of the soundest responses to 1.d4, one could argue almost the opposite about 1...Nc6 as a response to 1.e4. The main reason for this is probably the fact that Black blocks his c-pawn on the very first move, something that a dogmatic player will regard as highly suspect. However, there are many other factors at play in the opening than the mobility of either side's c-pawn, and this DVD sets out to explore some fairly rare but perfectly acceptable lines for Black. The main part of the defense is a Pirc Defense (after 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 Nf6 4.Nc3 g6), in which Black has avoided the sharpest lines at the small price of a little less flexibility, since his knight is already on c6. I will also recommend ways to counter White's side lines and of course something against his second most important option, 2.d4.
