The Rapid and Blitz World Championship will take place in the Uzbek city of Samarkand from December 26th to December 30th. The German hopeful Vincent Keymer, who surprisingly became Vice World Rapid Champion last year, will also be taking part. He even missed the chance to become World Champion.
Becoming vice world champion is probably not the most important thing for Keymer. His focus in general seems to be on classical chess, although many blitz sessions show that he also enjoys the faster time controls.
However, he will be keen to gain further experience against the absolute world elite and either test his opening repertoire or perhaps even consciously venture into unknown positions.
In any case, we keep our fingers crossed!
