The King's Indian and Grünfeld are notoriously tricky and theory-heavy openings. The Fianchetto avoids the main lines that the second movers are comfortable with and aims for a small but safe advantage. Many are afraid to play against the King's Indian because Black can attack the white king, but in the Fianchetto he finds it very difficult to create any attacking chances. Instead the game often takes a positional course, with White having a little more room for his pieces. The Grünfeld, on the other hand, is known for long forcing lines that often lead to a draw. Here the Fianchetto offers the advantage of avoiding all of this and simply getting a playable position with almost all the pieces still on the board. In this DVD I have gone a long way to find the best lines for White against various Black replies, focusing on both concrete theory and general ideas. I have been playing the Fianchetto Variation for over 20 years now and was unbeaten with White from 2011 until the time of recording the DVD. It is not least due to a repertoire with which White can play for a win without risk, with a certain range of draws in reserve if things start to go wrong! I hope you can benefit a lot from this DVD, which offers you a sustainable opening repertoire against both the King's Indian and the Grünfeld. You don't have to learn a lot of theory to play it, but it does offer opportunities for an opening advantage.
