DVD1:
The Queen's Gambit Declined is one of the most reliable openings against 1.d4. With a stable pawn in the middle of the board, Black secures influence in the center. The solid position in the center gives Black good chances to attack the white king later. On this DVD, Grandmaster Daniel King shows the intricacies and ideas of the Queen's Gambit and presents a repertoire for Black. King illustrates the repertoire with ten example games that cover all of White's important systems: 5.Bg5, 5.Bf4 and the Exchange Variation. (King shows what Black can do against the Catalan on another DVD). The Queen's Gambit Declined is a flexible opening. This DVD examines different systems, giving you the opportunity to remain variable and surprise your opponents. A big advantage of the Queen's Gambit is that it requires little theory: you need to know and understand the ideas of the opening, but you don't need to learn sophisticated variations full of clever computer moves. This DVD presents complete games so you can see what typical strategies both sides use. And the games make you want to play the opening. This is an interactive DVD. At key moments in the games, Grandmaster King pauses and asks you questions. He asks you to find and play the best move. In further video clips, he then gives you feedback on your moves. All world champions have played the Queen's Gambit Declined. This shows how reliable and good this opening is.

DVD2:
The Catalan offers White a reliable and solid opening system, but Black has ways and means of disrupting White's calm setup while maintaining a solid and healthy position himself. On this DVD, Grandmaster Daniel King presents a Black repertoire against the Catalan based on strengthening the pawn on d5, Black's solid support. If Black maintains influence in the center, he has a good chance of attacking the king later. King presents the repertoire using ten example games with the system 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.g3 Bb4+. The bishop check disrupts White's calm development. All three of White's responses (5.Bd2, 5.Nbd2, 5.Nc3) are examined. 4...Bb4+ has recently been played by Magnus Carlsen and has been used regularly and successfully by Vishy Anand and Boris Spassky in particular. The DVD also contains a system against Réti and English Variations, which arise after 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 e6 3.g3. A big advantage of this system is that it requires little theory: you need to know and understand the ideas of the opening, but you don't need to learn sophisticated variations full of clever computer moves. This DVD presents complete games so you can see what typical strategies both sides use. And the games make you want to play this variation. This is an interactive DVD. At key moments in the games, Grandmaster King pauses and asks you questions. He challenges you to find and play the best move. He then gives you feedback on your moves in further video clips.
